RACING
Dusty Vinson just can't get enough speed! A racing fan from an early age, Dusty began racing in 1980. Speed has been a key part of his life since age 2 when his grandfather helped his competitive sons, including Dusty's father, Avery, get started in racing. Dusty developed his skills at a young age by racing and winning with Go-Karts. Racing is now a family tradition and that is a clue to why Dusty Vinson races ... he loves to feel the raging 280 hp and experience the speed of his Professional Association of Race Truck machine! |

Dusty Vinson Stock Car Summary
|
His years of driving experience in the other classes give him the winning edge! One thing Dusty understands is the need to update his driving skills and to keep learning.
Birthdate: 7/18/73
Residence: Franklin, NC
In 1995, Dusty began racing in the rugged world of dirt track racing. A place where man and machine have to be in the best possible shape just to survive. Dusty's real driving talent began to emerge when he placed 7th in his very first dirt track race. During his first year, he managed to move up from stock class to modified class. His worst finish was when he had to struggle to finish with a crippled car, yet he still managed a 10th place win. Even on a bad day Dusty can finish in the Top 10!! No team is complete without a Pit Crew. As you may know, the tracks are short and there are no pit stops in dirt track racing. So, if something goes wrong with his machine, a driver is usually out of the race. Never count Dusty out. With a flat tire in one race, Dusty was forced to pull off the track. Most drivers would have given up, but Dusty had given his word to his Sponsors that he would finish every race if at all possible. With a talented Speed Crew in the pit, Dusty got back on the track but was down by 2 laps ... the kind of driving challenge that Dusty eats for breakfast. Dusty fought his way back to 9th place by the end of the race and, although he didn't win, the crowd loved it and making Dusty the underdog to watch for. Dusty has 19 Top 5 wins and and an additional 10
wins in the Top 10. The boy knows how to drive and
his Speed Crew knows how to set up a race machine for
different tracks. 1980 - Dusty
started racing Go-Karts - won the first race he entered
1995 - Dusty
started racing full size stock cars for the first time
1996 - Dusty
moved up to Modified 4 cylinder class and along with
learning to handle a more powerful car, kept winning.
1997 - Saw
Dusty back in the Modified 4 Cylinder, only this time he
added 1st and 2nd place wins to his trophy case.
1998 - Dusty
set his eyes on something more competitive and began
building and practicing for the PARTS Pro Truck Series.
1999 - Dusty's
goal is to win Rookie of the Year Championship in the
PARTS Pro Truck Series and develop a relationship with
sponsors/advertisers who want to grow into the NASCAR
competition with him. Sign on, buckle in, and ride
to the winner's circle with Dusty Vinson and McCoy
Motorsports. Racing can be an expensive proposition and one thing Dusty' father, Avery, has drilled into him is to take care of the equipment so it will last. The fact that his father was paying for a large portion of parts and equipment was without a doubt a major influence on that philosophy. McCoy Motorsports treats the funds from sponsors/advertisers the same way. Sponsor funds are there for promotion and exposure time, not for unnecessary repairs. Dusty is moving into the stage of his life where dedication, driving skill, and maturity have linked with perseverance to drive him toward realizing his racing goals. The 1999 PARTS Pro Truck Series provides the next challenge for McCoy Racing and Dusty Vinson! McCoy Motorsports McCoy Motorsports brings together the talent and competitive spirit of Dusty Vinson with the seasoned experience of Gary McCoy in Winston Cup driving and the building of a mechanically superior race machine through his company. |
